Women's Chlorine Resistant Swimwear

Why Choose Chlorine Resistant Swimwear?

Does chlorine really impact my swimwear? Yes, it does! A little dose of chlorine is enough to affect your swimwear dramatically. Most swimsuits can withstand a harsh beating from this chemical, but the effects of chlorine will start to show on your swimwear after a while. We have the perfect solution for this issue!

Chlorine Resistant Swimwear

We’ve all been there. Suddenly, our favorite, most trusted swimsuit just doesn’t fit like it used to. It’s lost it’s stretch and shape and the color has faded too! But why? The truth is, chlorine is usually the reason why our swimsuits start to break down.

Does chlorine really impact my swimwear? Yes, it does! It doesn’t matter if you are a daily swimmer, a sometimes pool enthusiast or if you only swim on vacation. A little dose of chlorine is enough to affect your swimwear dramatically. Most swimsuits can withstand a harsh beating from this chemical, but the effects of chlorine will start to show on your swimwear after a while.

When your swimsuit is exposed to chlorine, it will gradually break down. If not cared for properly, over time, chlorine corrodes and eats away at your beautiful Nip Tuck Swim swimsuit. This degradation of the fabric in your swimwear happens straight away and builds up over time. You may not notice this at first but a tell-tale sign that chlorine is ruining your swimsuit is that it will lose its elasticity. You will first notice that your swimsuit is a little looser and stretchy than usual and will have sand-like grains visible on the surface. These sand-looking grains are a visual marker that the elastane is breaking down in the suit and over time, this will cause the swimsuit to become saggy, discolored, and see-through. This degradation can happen even when the swimsuit isn’t being used.

All pools, no matter if they are indoor or outdoor, need chlorine to destroy any bacteria and control algae formation. Chlorine keeps us safe when we are swimming in a pool as it disinfects and oxidizes (chemically destroys) materials like dirt and chloramines (chemical compounds that build up over time from our sweat, oils and urine – gross!).

Without chlorine added to pool water, people are susceptible to diseases and illnesses including diarrhoea, athletes’ foot and earaches.

Chlorine - what is it?

Chlorine (CI) is a chemical that is naturally occurring, making it a base block for universal matter and putting it on the periodic table. It is produced through a process called electrolysis where an electric current is passed through brine (salt dissolved in water).

Why do we use chlorine in swimming pools?

Chlorine keeps us safe! It protects us from waterborne germs, bacteria and algae by forming an acid called hypochlorous acid. Stronger doses of chlorine are used in swimming pools that have more volume than smaller pools as well as in pools that are more frequently used than others. For example, public swimming pools experience higher volumes of swimmers than residential pools do, meaning they need more chlorine to kill bacteria and unwanted substances. No matter the level of chlorine in a pool however, any presence of chlorine on your bathing suit will eventually ruin it.

Why then are swimsuits designed to break down?

We do use fabrics that break down in chlorine. But there is method to our madness.

In a simple explanation, we require our swimsuits to be tight-fitting with adequate amounts of stretch and recovery so that they are comfortable to move in, fit perfectly and provide great tummy control benefits. The fiber that helps us achieve this the best is Elastane.

Elastane is incredibly stretchy and will recover its shape time and again as if it were new. Elastane is a synthetic fiber, made from a polyurethane which has elastic properties. The biggest advantage of using elastane is that it can retain its original shape despite being stretched. BUT it does not have the longest lifespan. To work against this, our fabrication is mixed with Nylon which is a fiber that has incredible abrasion and wear resistance and can dry faster than other fabrics. Nylon is light weight and accounts for most of the fabrication make-up in our Nip Tuck Swim swimsuits.

So, if my swimsuit is bound to breakdown, how can I make it last?

The best way you can prolong the life of your swimsuit is to make sure you care for it correctly. This includes laundering it properly.

In a quick explanation, the best thing you can do to care for your swimwear is to wash it immediately after wear. For your Nip Tuck Swim swimsuit, you should hand wash your suit separately in cold soapy water and rinse it well.

We want to note here too that it isn’t only chlorine that has a harsh impact on your swimwear. Prolonged sun exposure, salty water, hot sand, high temperatures, body oils and products like fake tan and sunscreen will also ruin your swimsuit.

There is a better solution - Chlorine Resistant Swimwear...

Whilst we stand by our laundering point, we understand that not every woman will adhere to these instructions. So we have the perfect solution…Chlorine resistant swimwear! Yes! You can buy perfectly fitting Nip Tuck Swim swimwear that is CHLORINE RESISTANT!

Our range of chlorine resistant swimwear is made out of Polyester PBT and doesn’t have any elastane in the make-up of the fabrication. This means that there is no elastane for chlorine to eat away at.

Our chlorine resistant swimsuits last season after season and are not only economical but more environmental too.

There are some downsides to Chlorine resistant swimwear though and unfortunately the biggest one here is that it doesn’t stretch easily and that makes it harder to get on. This is a challenge to get on and off, especially when your swimsuit is wet. This lack of stretch means that these swimsuits may not feel as comfortable on as our other swimsuits do.

We have a range of chlorine resistant swimsuits on offer currently! This includes our classic Joanne Twist Front shape in two different color ways and a new shape that is exclusive to our Freestyle Floral Chlorine Resistant Collection.

These swimsuits are perfect for those ladies that love to spend time by the pool or prefer swimsuits that will not break down!
